If AIRPLANE! isn’t the greatest comedy of all time, it might well be the most important. Even after 40+ years, and with most of its references reduced to cultural footnotes, the movie retains its riotously funny power and huge degree of influence.

After the cabin crew for a commercial flight is incapacitated, a traumatized ex-Navy pilot with a fear of flying must land the plane in time to save the lives of the passengers. Featuring Leslie Nielsen in his first comedic role, this disaster movie spoof remains as funny today as when it debuted. So join us as we revisit this comedic big bang for the first installment of our new series, Comedy 101, hosted by Sarah Mulligan Williams.
