Becks

Series: Queer Commons Film Festival

This is part of Feminist March 2018
Inspired by the real life of singer/songwriter Alyssa Robbins, BECKS follows a musician who moves back to her childhood home in St. Louis after a crushing breakup with her longtime girlfriend. While performing for tips at a local tavern and struggling to reconnect with her ultra-Catholic mother, she strikes up a unique friendship with the wife of an old nemesis. Becks begins to discover her musical voice as she performs deeply personal songs about her ex and the loss of their relationship. Driven by an original score, the film’s musical numbers bring a unique new voice to the American musical movie.

Lead actor Lena Hall is a Tony winner and Grammy-nominated American actress and singer. She is known for being the lead singer of the band The Deafening and for her work on Broadway, including originating the role of Nicola in Kinky Boots and her Tony Award-winning role as Yitzhak in the 2014 revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. She made history by becoming the first person to play both Hedwig and Yitzhak in the same production during the national tour of the musical in 2016.
