Get Out

Portland artists and activists Leila Haile and Maya Vivas of Ori Gallery present Jordan Peele’s Academy Award-winning horror film GET OUT! This special screening is followed by a panel discussion on the real-life issues surrounding this groundbreaking sociological horror film.

Like a merger of ROSEMARY’S BABY and THE STEPFORD WIVES with GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER, GET OUT (2017) chronicles black photographer Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) on a trip to meet his white girlfriend Rose’s (Allison Williams) brain surgeon father (Bradley Whitford) and hypnotist mother (Catherine Keener). But the family has other plans for the weekend, and Chris finds himself in a race against time and a fight for his life. Using horror tropes to illustrate racism, tokenization, interracial relationships, and structural white supremacy, GET OUT deftly navigates real horrors while smashing genre and audience barriers in a singular artistic vision.
