Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music Release Party

A special night celebrating Mississippi Records re-release of Harry Smith’s Anthology Of American Folk Music ! This evening will feature:

  • Two great and rarely seen Harry Smith films screened on 16mm film: Early Abstractions from 1964 (with a live cello solo soundtrack by Lori Goldston) and Film Number 15 (Untitled animation of Seminole patchwork) from 1965 – 66
  • A slideshow about Harry Smith by Rani Singh of the Harry Smith Archive
  • Live covers of songs from the Anthology performed by some of Mississippi Records favorite musicians: Michael Hurley, Marisa Anderson, Dragging An Ox Through Water and more to be announced.

MISSISSIPPI RECORDS MUSIC AND FILM SERIES is new monthly series of events curated by Mississippi Records. Events include film showings, live music and lectures featuring artists close to the heart of Portland’s Mississippi Records label and shop. Artists and collaborators featured include Sun Ra, Philip Cohran, Harry Smith, Les Blank, Michael Hurley, the Academy Film Archive, and many many more.
