Love & Terror On The Howling Plains of Nowhere

Hawthorne Books presents a special screening of the award-winning 2014 documentary LOVE & TERROR ON THE HOWLING PLAINS OF NOWHERE, directed by Dave Jannetta and based on Poe Ballantine’s memoir of the same title. BuzzFeed chose the memoir as one of its favorite nonfiction titles of the year. According to Variety: "Dave Jannetta's entertaining, decidedly offbeat documentary LOVE & TERROR ON THE HOWLING PLAINS OF NOWHERE weaves an eclectic web of assorted digressions around the mysterious death of a math professor in the small town of Chadron, Nebraska.” Both author and director will be in attendance for the screening, and afterward they will discuss the film and answer audience questions. Nebraska-based Ballantine, whom Cheryl Strayed calls "Brilliant... utterly transparent on the page, a rare thing," is visiting Portland on his West Coast tour for his new novel WHIRLAWAY.
