MMU: International Cult Horror of the 1970's

The culture and turmoil of the 1970s made the decade a thriving time for cinema. While films like THE EXORCIST, CARRIE, and HALLOWEEN killed at the box office, the international films of the era are lesser known to American audiences.

This course will provide a deep dive into international horror films released in the ‘70s—cult films that would go on to inspire American classics.

(We aren’t allowed to promote the names of our education titles online, but feel free to email education@moviemadness.org with “70s class titles” in the subject line for a full list of titles.)

Movies will be screened at the Movie Madness Miniplex (4320 SE Belmont), followed by an instructor-led discussion. Classes will be held Tuesdays in February at 7:00pm. Proof of vaccination and masks are required for all students and instructors.

Tuition is $75 for the four-week class, $60 for Hollywood Theatre and Movie Madness members.

This class will be taught by Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Her previous MMU classes have explored cult horror films of different decades, Women in Documentary Filmmaking, and more.
