Portland EcoFilm Festival, The Sierra Club, Oregon Chapter, Friends of the Columbia Gorge, and Power Past Coal present the Portland premiere of OUR SACRED OBLIGATION .

OUR SACRED OBLIGATION is a documentary film about the 2014 Totem Pole Journey hosted by the House of Tears Carvers of the Lummi Nation. The totem pole's creation and its 22 day-long journey connected tribal nations and non-native communities along the proposed coal-train path to Xwe’chienXen, the ancient Lummi village site and burial ground - and the proposed site for a coal terminal.

Lummi Nation filmmaker Fred Lane and Master Carver Jewell James in person for post-film discussion! Discussion will include an update on the upcoming hearing on Tuesday, May 24, for the proposed coal terminal in Longview, Washington. Learn about the Draft Environmental Impact Statement process, how you can participate in the hearing, submit comments online, and get an update on the Northwest coal fights in general.
