Dorothy Mackaill stars as Gilda, a woman who flees to Tortuga with her ex-boyfriend (Donald Cook), after murdering a man (Ralf Harolde) responsible for ruining her career and forcing her into a life of prostitution. While on the island, she stays in a hotel run by Leonie (Nina Mae McKinney) and Newcastle (Clarence Muse) and meets a cast of unsavory ex-pats residing there, each with seedy pasts of their own.
Also starring Noble Johnson, John Wray, Victor Varconi as the unscrupulous police chief, and directed by the great William A. Wellman. You can feel the tropical heat emitting from the screen!
