Summertime

Series: Cinema Classics

For our May Cinema Classics screenings, we’re celebrating Katharine Hepburn’s birthday with a screening of SUMMERTIME on beautiful 35mm! The screening on 5/12 is free for Hollywood Theatre members.

SUMMERTIME (1955): Katharine Hepburn plays Jane Hudson, a “fancy secretary” from Akron, Ohio, who arrives in Venice on her first trip to Europe. Her dream of romance becomes a bittersweet reality when she meets a handsome Italian man while vacationing. Katharine Hepburn’s sensitive portrayal of the lonely heroine and Jack Hildyard’s glorious Technicolor photography make SUMMERTIME an endearing and visually enchanting film. Director David Lean’s technique was never more smooth; he's tactful and supportive of a star giving a bravura performance in a difficult role.
