The Shining

This film plays as part of our "Stephen King 75th Birthday Film Series." In honor of the man's platinum birthday, we'll be raffling off a 1st edition book to one lucky moviegoer at each screening!

“Five months of peace is just what I want,” says Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) upon accepting the job of winter caretaker for the Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. Little do Jack and his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) know, their young son Danny holds a mysterious gift to see the past, the future, and visions unseen by the average person. This power is thrown into overdrive at the dormant Overlook, which holds an evil power of its own, haunted by the ghosts of its own sordid past.

Trapped together in total isolation, this family begins to fall apart as the hotel's malevolent force tightens its grip in response to Danny's untapped supernatural power. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this horror classic features one of Jack Nicholson's most iconic performances.
