You're Gonna Miss Me

Series: Mississippi Records Music & Film

On May 31st, Roky Erickson, the greatest psychedelic warrior of them all, passed away. In tribute, Mississippi Records and the Hollywood Theatre present YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME, a documentary that chronicles Erickson's rise and fall and rise and fall and rise and fall.

(2005) Roky started his music career as lead singer of the 13th Floor Elevators, a very serious rock band that verged on being a religious acid cult. Roky suffered from various mental problems, aggravated by drug use and abuse at the hands of institutions. In the 70's, Roky invented his own genre of music - "horror rock" - which chronicled his visions of vampires, zombies, two-headed dogs and more monsters from his id. The film follows Roky as he falls apart and puts himself back together again and again throughout his career. It features amazing archival footage (including scenes from a B-movie his religious mother stars in and directed that has to be seen to be believed). Roky was a true artist and one of us. He is missed. Please join us to celebrate the life of a speaker of truths.
